A choice of Quality
QUALOSS, the european project for FLOSS measurement, choose Plone for its portal.
Measuring quality in Open Source
We all know that moving - or stay grounded - to open source software has a strategic meaning and impact. But how can we make adequate decision when investing in a software project instead of one another? Which are the parameters that we must really evaluate when building and integrating a software system?
QUALOSS is an EU research project that wants to provide an answer to these questions: assuming that success and failure of a software project should not be totally impredictable, qualoss individuated two basic charateristics of better software in robustness and evolvability; then it started a process of evaluation that is:
- building a method - the QUALOSS method based on topics of robustness and evolvability
- developing a tool - the QUALOSS platform - to automate measuring using the QUALOSS method
- providing validation - for both the method and platform, testing it on at least 50 floss projects
According to the team a first prototype version of the QUALOSS method and platform will be available in Sept 2007.
The portal
The project portal is currently live at www.qualoss.eu.
Qualoss portal was developed using Plone: it is currently a simple and beautiful portal for document management and presentation that wants to be easy to use and content-oriented. Implemented by Zea-Partners, in particular by Rosario Di Somma (Reflab) and Valerio Lobello (Perfect) it is pure Plone quality at work, with the needed amount of tuning and customization.
The buzz
Plone will be one of the projects that will be evaluated with QUALOSS tools and it is also a veichle of dissemination for QUALOSS results.QUALOSS has been presented at the Seattle world Plone Conference that was held in November 2006 and an introduction about the goals and expected results of and QUALOSS was given by Zea-Partners CEO, Xavier Heyman, at the Plone.be annual meeting in Belgium.
